Summit College is a school managed by the University of Akron in Ohio. Located within the floors of Polsky Building and Schrank Hall South situated at the main campus of the University of Akron, Summit College offers a variety of associate and bachelor's degrees, technical education courses, certificate programs and the College tech prep program.
The main goal of Summit College is to provide its students with advanced technical skills, a chance to explore other career paths, and an opportunity to experience high-quality hands-on training courses.
Associate degrees offered by Summit College include Applied Business, Applied Science, Applied Technology, an Associate of Individualized Studies degree and an Associate of Arts degree. For those interested in taking up a degree in Applied Business, they can choose from a variety of courses offered under this degree -- Hospitality Management, Office Administration, Business Management, Computer Information Systems and Marketing and Sales.
Aside from associate degrees, Summit College also offers different bachelor's degrees. These B.S. degrees include Public Service Technology, Engineering and Science, Business Technology and Allied Health Technology. In order for students to finish these degrees, they have to meet the minimum required credits aside from associate degree credits.
Summit College, as part of the University of Akron, also offers technical education programs. These technical education programs are under different centers -- training centers for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, Fire and Hazardous Materials, and Emergency Management and Homeland Security Policy Research.
As part of its technical education programs, Summit College also offers tech prep programs in accordance with the Ohio tech prep initiative. The College tech prep offered by Summit College allows high school students to experience early work-related education and exploration. These tech prep courses are usually offered to ninth-grade students as part of a curriculum that aims to prepare students for technical jobs, apprenticeship programs and internship programs. A Technical Experience Assessment Program is also offered by Summit College as part of its excellent technical education courses. In this assessment program, students are given a chance to earn credits in relation to their work experiences. Students who wish to undergo this assessment program are required to participate in a Technical Experience Assessment Workshop.
Students can also choose from various certificate programs. These certificate programs can be completed by either finishing the required credits or by passing a test. Fields that offer certificate programs after completing the minimum number of units required include Allied Health Technology, Associate Studies, Business Technology, Engineering and Science Technology, and most of the programs under the field of Public Service Technology. As for certificate programs that can be finished by passing an exam, the certificates are usually given by specific companies and organizations. Currently, Summit College offers certificate programs through the Cisco Networking Academy.
Available facilities at Summit College include high-tech laboratories, computers and a Barnes and Noble bookstore. Students of Summit College can also experience dynamic academic advising programs. These programs aim to provide the students of Summit College with a better direction regarding career options.
